The nuts produce a butter that is softer, creamier, and lightly fragrant. Found growing only in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan, this butter is harder to come by than common West African shea butter, and its quality is far superior. West African shea butter is boiled and then cooked on high heat for hours to evaporate the water. It is then often sent to Europe to be refined and deodorized (this is what is most commonly found in shea butter products). In Uganda, the women collect the nuts and sell them to the family-owned mill which then cold presses the soft butter out of the nuts. This superior, virgin shea butter is rich in vitamin A. It makes no sense to use natural ingredients, and then use municipal water so we simply don't do it. We have been trucking in Virginia mountain spring water for almost 20 years to make sure that our products are always the safest and purist they can be.
